Kirtan, Yoga & Drum Maui Retreat

Open your heart, deepen your skills and confidence! Be refreshed in a wonderful week of kirtan, yoga, mantra and music. Join us for our seventh year at a private estate on Maui’s rugged north-shore where you can swim in our own salt water pool or hike to nearby waterfalls. Simmer in one of our several hot tubs over looking the ocean or see the island and enjoy it’s world reknown local beaches!
Gina and Daniel will offer their knowledge primarily in the morning and evening. There will be vocal coaching, open mic kirtan leading, harmonium, sanskrit, mantra pronounciation, raga singing, tabla, simple drumming and more. Gourmet food and tours of our on-site permaculture farm will be available along with yoga sessions, time for musical practice, jamming and lots of kirtan!

Gina Salá is a vocalist, composer, music director, sound healer, and teacher from Seattle whose love of the human voice has taken her to performing and studying throughout much of the world. She has been chanting since early childhood and studies, and shares cross-cultural singing, sanskrit, mantra and chant. She has performed at the US Pentagon, the US Capital, the United Nations, and s principal singer for Cirque du Soleil’s “O”. With humor, devotion and a repertoire spanning 23 languages, Gina Salá shares her passion for singing us awake to who we are! Chanting: Filled with a love for the One Divine known through many forms and names, Gina Salá leads regular interfaith, participatory chanting (kirtan) evenings as a pathway to awakening to our unity and wholeness. Salá began devotional (bhakti) chanting to the Divine and mantra in different traditions at age 3 living in a hindu ashram in Canada with Swami Sivananda Radha. She deepened her practices in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery (Kopan Gompa) in Nepal in 1992. Salá spent several months solo in the Himalaya, and emerged to meet her advaita Guru, Papaji (HWL Poonjaji) who was in the lineage of Sri Ramana Maharshi. She has continued “diving deeper”…

Tabla drummer and vocalist Daniel Paul earned his Tal Vadya Bid degree in the classical music of India from the Ali Akbar College of Music in 1984. Nine years of intense study under India’s great masters (Ali Akbar Khan, Zakir Hussain, Jnan Prakash Ghosh, Swapan Chaudhuri and Chitresh Das), found Daniel on the teaching and performing staff and a member of the New Maihar Band, the College Orchestra and Tabla Drum Ensembles. For 7 years he also served as personal assistant to his teacher, the late legendary Maestro Khan, accompanying on the background tamboura (stringed drone) instrument on tours including the rare quartet appearances with Ravi Shankar, Allah Rakha and Zakir Hussain at Carnegie Hall and festivals throughout India.
